okay i just went to that sad part of tumblr called tagged/olivia penpraze and that’s a ridiculously fucking awful story.

Specifically, because it could’ve been stopped. The first thing psychologists ask, if you survive a suicide attempt is ‘Did you tell anyone?’ This is how they determine whether the attempt was a ‘cry for help’ or ‘intent to die’. If you tell no one, it’s considered ‘intent to die’.

In fact, in her last video, she says ‘I’ve got Soundwave on Friday, so i’ll do it after then’. People that are willing to stay alive for Soundwave aren’t exactly in a rush to be dead.

The bottom line is that Olivia Penpraze posted a video to 900 people and none of them tried to help, and THAT’s fucked up.

RIP.

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/parents-issue-warning-over-online-trolls/story-fn7x8me2-1226321172059

I can’t even fathom how someone could think of egging someone on to take their life as trolling. Yeah, Nina, every part of Olivia’s story is just so fucking wrong. Reminds me in some ways of Yueyue’s story..

This utter apathy, or lack of compassion, or disconnection with humanity, or whatever grand phrase I use to try to encapsulate whatever it is we’re experiencing, is it symptomatic of our technological age? There’s so much to do, see, catch up with, I know I’m constantly distracted. Are we too busy or lazy to engage in the complexities of realities, to connect to each other beyond surface level, to empathise and support and really be there? When it’s so much easier to watch romcoms and Masterchef and go clubbing and get mindlessly drunk and avert my gaze from the homeless and I don’t know how to live.. I guess Olivia didn’t either.. maybe all we need is to know that there are others who don’t know too

Video

watched this in our language and discourse tutorial yesterday..

watched this in our language and discourse tutorial yesterday..

notescribbles:

The Scold’s Bridle

A scold’s bridle is a British invention, possibly originating in Scotland, used between the 16th and 19th Century. It was a device used to control, humiliate and punish gossiping, troublesome women by effectively gagging them. Scold comes from the ‘common scold’: a public nuisance, more often than not women, who habitually gossiped and quarrelled with their neighbours, while the name bridle describes a part that fitted into the mouth. The scold’s bridle was also known as the ‘gossiping bridle’ and the ‘Brank(s)’, and was commonly used by husbands on their nagging or swearing wives. The device was occasionally used on men; however, it was primarily used on women who agitated the male-dominated society of the era.

In the 19th Century having a photograph taken was a lengthy process. Frustrated by the difficulties of getting children to sit still long enough to snap a proper photo , photographers in the 1800’s conceived of a technique called “The Hidden Mother”. Draping a sheet over the mothers head in an attempt to camouflage her as a part of the furniture to better emphasize the child, the mother was then able to hold her infant and keep them still long enough for the camera to get an exposure. Vintage photographs already have a eerie feel to them, but these images of moms as cloaked phantoms take the creep factor to the next level.

A...

The swastika has been seen as a symbol for good luck by people in both ancient and modern times. A closer look at the etymology of this Sanskrit word, however, reveals a deeper meaning. When the Sanskrit scholar and spiritual teacher, P.R. Sarkar visited Germany in 1979 he gave the following interpretation of the word:

su - means “good”

asti - means “to be, to exist”

ik - means “what is in existence, and will continue to exist”

a - denotes feminine gender

So “Swastika” means a ‘good existence’ that is not to be destroyed and that remains in a good condition. He went on to say that its deeper meaning is permanent victory. In the context of the cultural origins of the swastika, this means the victory of dharma - the fundamental spiritual nature of humanity.

Photo

nevver: Behind every great novelist …

nevver: Behind every great novelist …

"Men look at women.
